What is a RSS Feed?

A RSS Feed (Really Simple Syndication) is the easiest way, that your blog (website) visitors can use, to syndicate or to subscribe to the feed of your blog (website) or any other content online. This means that your visitors do not have to visit your website to read your latest post or content. Instead they can read trough your feed the latest content by using a Feed reading software.

Most people collect all the feeds of the sites they are interested in, in one place.

What is Feedburner?

Feedburner is a free service that allows your content to be delievered (and subscribed to) on the web as a Feed. It takes your default wordpress feed, and adds more functionality to it.

Why to use it?

With Feedburner you can publicize your content and make it easy for people to subscribe. Secondary you can optimize your distribution so that your content is properly formatted for all the major directories and your subscriber can consume it wherever they are. Therefore they are uptodate!

Within your free Feedburner account you can analyze your traffic to learn how many subscriber you have, where they are coming from and what they like best.

How to activate FeedFlare for your feed, blog or website?

1. Simply sign in to your Feedburner account
2. Select FeedFlare from the “Optimize” tab
3. Choose from a standard set of options including Email This, Digg This, Save to del.icio.us and Share on Facebook, to name a few

Recommendation:

When possible give your customers two options how they can subscribe for getting more information about your business on a regular basis:

1. Via a Feed or
2. Via Email (newsletter)

With these two options you can commit your customers on your business and they will thank you by coming back, again and again looking for new information.

By sending out a regular newsletter with valueable information about your topic, you can monetize your newsletter by recommending products from other people as an affiliate. This technique is called a “Back-End-Sale”.
